What's new in Aquamacs Emacs 3.5:
I'm using GNU Emacs 24.4.1 (x8664-apple-darwin13.4.0, NS apple-appkit-1265.21) on OS X 10.9.5 currently, this version is the one from Emacs for Mac OS X and used with It's All Text! For Firefox to write this answer. Emacs for Haskell. Haskellers are not exactly blessed with an abundance of IDEs. After trying Vim, Atom and Haskell for Mac I converged on Emacs with the Intero package. First let's run through a selection of alternatives that all have great features but are each lacking in some particular way. Haskell for Mac. Aquamacs is a user-friendly build of the powerful Emacs text editor. Aquamacs integrates with the Mac and offers the same comforts that any application on the Mac provides. Yet, it comes with all the ergonomics and extensibility you've come to expect from GNU Emacs. In general, this is a problem only for Emacs for Mac OS X version because they are using a Ruby script as an entry point for the application. As many Mac OS X/Emacs users know, OS X has many of the Emacs key bindings defined for the entire system. Thus, bindings like 【 Ctrl + f 】, 【 Ctrl + b 】, 【 Ctrl + a 】, 【 Ctrl + e 】, 【 Ctrl + k 】, 【 Ctrl + y 】, 【 Ctrl + p 】, 【 Ctrl + n 】, and a few others work across the whole system.
- Fixed a compatibility issue with macOS Mojave.
- Aquamacs is now compiled and distributed with a copy of the gnutls library to enable secure web connections. The version in this distribution is 3.6.8. Only the shared library and its library dependencies are included. This was done because Emacs has removed support for using the openssl command line tool shipped with Mac OS X. Code for building the libraries contributed by Win Treese. License information for these libraries is included the manual.
- In order to provide compatibility with gnutls, the oldest supported version of Mac OS X is now El Capitan (10.11).
- This version also bundles the binary shared library for the libxml2 library (version 2.9.9).

In addition, Aquamacs Emacs uses Mac standard fonts that are rendered with antialising.
Other adjustments include the fact that selected pieces of text will not be automatically copied to clipboard, that you can send the document directly to the printer, that you get to use metakeys, or that you can spell-check the content.
To conclude, if you want to take advantage of the powerful Emacs text editing capabilities, while taking advantage of all the standard functions you’ve been accustomed to use on Mac OS X, the Aquamacs Emacs is a viable alternative.
